Inspired by the wrap-around ease of a kimono and the traditional design of the Barong Tagalog, this piece demonstrates exquisite taste in a delicately made top. The Barong Tagalog combines elements from both the pre-colonial native Filipino and colonial Spanish clothing styles. It is traditionally made with a sheer textile such as piña, a hand-woven material. Used to this day mostly by men in most formal occasions in the Philippines, the Barong Kimono is Jorel Espina’s modern take on traditional Filipino fashion, combining barong material with chambre fabric.
