This tray is nestled deep in the Kitanglad Mountains , the home of the Daraghuyan Tribe. The community thrives in the abundance of abaca or "Manila hemp" in their forest, a plant that is endemic to the Philippines. The strips of fiber are extracted from leaf-stems and dyed with ingenious plants before the weaving preparations begins. The community honours the gift from nature through a thanksgiving ritual blessing every fiber with gratitude. Set on a vertical loom, the weaver then weaves Abaca Pananggabol around these cool months to prevent breakage of the fiber.
